St. Nicholas' Day is a time of great fun in Ukraine which is celebrated on
the 19th of December,. Children write letters to St. Nikolas and expect for a
miracle. On the night
before the holiday, every child waits for gifts, which St. Nicholas will put
under the pillow. Children, who behaved well, receive sweets, cookies,
gingerbread, some small presents.
On this day, people invite guests and have family dinners. Parents and
grandparents tell their children stories from St. Nicholas life and teach them
to be as kind, laborious, charitable, honest as he was.
